Today after work I drove over to Frederick Co. Md. for a rather harried
hour of birding before dark.
I found 1 Lapland Longspur among a large group of Horned Larks.
I got very good looks at this bird - a lifer - which I observed from my car
at
~20-30 feet. After about 5 minutes of observing the Lapland Longspur, the
birds were spooked.
I spent the next hour trying to get another close
look at these birds, but my luck had run out. The birds never returned this
close
to the road. However, there were many fly overs of groups ranging from
5 -50
birds crossing back and forth over Route 85. Several birds seen in flight
appeared to be Snow Buntings with large white wing patches in the secondarys
and dark primary tips....
Location: Birds were seen at 3 tenths of a mile North from the
intersection of Route 85
and Lily Pons road. On the West side of the road where there are two large
Oak trees
and a telephone pole with the # 58 on it. The field was freshly manured as
noted in
previous messages from Dave Bridge and Will Hershberger.

                                                                    Good
birding!
