I want to thank everyone who came on the field trip today. I enjoyed meeting the new ones and seeing the repeaters again. For those who didn't come, we had a beautiful day and the birds were pretty good, too, although we had a few no-shows like the Lesser Black-backed Gull, Peregrin Falcon and Black-crowned Night-Heron. Here is my tally. Some of the birds I heard but didn't really point out. If anyone has any to add, let me know. I came up with 48 species: PIED-BILLED GREBE HORNED GREBE GREAT BLUE HERON TUNDRA SWAN TRUMPETER SWAN CANADA GOOSE AMERICAN BLACK DUCK MALLARD NORTHERN SHOVELER GADWALL AMERICAN WIGEON CANVASBACK REDHEAD RING-NECKED DUCK LESSER SCAUP COMMON GOLDENEYE BUFFLEHEAD HOODED MERGANSER COMMON MERGANSER RUDDY DUCK BLACK VULTURE TURKEY VULTURE BALD EAGLE SHARP-SHINNED HAWK RED-TAILED HAWK AMERICAN COOT BONAPARTE'S GULL RING-BILLED GULL HERRING GULL GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL ROCK DOVE MOURNING DOVE BELTED KINGFISHER RED-HEADED WOODPECKER RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER DOWNY WOODPECKER BLUE JAY AMERICAN CROW CAROLINA CHICKADEE TUFTED TITMOUSE CAROLINA WREN GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET EASTERN BLUEBIRD NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD EUROPEAN STARLING SONG SPARROW WHITE-THROATED SPARROW DARK-EYED JUNCO COMMON GRACKLE Not bad considering that we basically ignored the landbirds.
