Dear Members of the Maryland Birds Listserv,

I am a Zoology graduate student at the University of Texas at
Austin. I am conducting a study of some bird behaviors and their
ecological and morphological correlates using data from the literature and
questionaires sent out to experienced birders. Some of the species for
which I have data may occur in your area or you may have experience with
them. I have listed below the birds for which I need information. The
study is a comparative one so I am looking for folks who have experience
with both species in any pair.

        1) Purple Finch (Carpodacus purpereus) and
                House Finch (Carpodacus mexicanus)

        2) Common Redpoll (Carduelis flammea) and
                American Goldfinch (Carduelis tristis)

        3) House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) and
                Tree Sparrow (Passer montanus)

        4) Orchard Oriole (Icterus spurius) and
                Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula)

        5) Northern Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottus) and
                Grey Catbird (Dumetella carolinensis)

The questions asked are fairly short so this would involve a very
small time commitment on the part of any respondents. Please E-mail me
seperately if you can assist me or have any questions. Thank you for your
time and attention.

Sincerely,

Kate LeVering
