Four of us spent from 4:15pm to 5:15pm yesterday looking for the
Slaty-backed Gull. Alas, to no avail. There were the usual
multi-tens of thousands of gulls present. The red lights were flashing,
the sirens blowing and the water rushing from the gates. More than
enough gulls feeding, but nothing more than Ring-billed, Herring,
and Great Black-blacked Gull. Couldn't even find a Less Black-blacked.
The water level in the river below the dam was probably five feet
lower than where it was two weeks ago when Gail and I were there
on another abortive attempt to find the Slaty-backed. 0 for 2 now.

We did see the Kelp Gull around noon when we got there - a real no
brainer. I suggested to the waitress at the resturant that they post
a sign saying that you can't count the bird if you don't stop by
and eat something.
