Actually, Tyler Bell posted a message on 2/27, giving the website of the
Maryland State Senate and Generally Assembly. There are bills pending
in both houses. Here's a repeat of Tyler's message:

For those of you who didn't read between the lines of Marcia Whitmyre's
post on MDOsprey, here's a web site where you can contact your Maryland
state Senator or Representative and let the know how you feel. Thanks
Marcia!

Senate Bill 566 and House Bill 906
Directors of the Maryland Sportsmen's Association have voted 9-2 in
favor of the bills Senate Bill 566 and House Bill 906, that would allow
Sunday hunting of deer, turkey, grouse and squirrels. Fishing, falconry
and unarmed fox hunts are already permitted on Sundays.

Hearings on both bills are scheduled this coming week.

You can find your delegates and senator using that website, simply by
entering your full address. Then, if they have e-mail (most do), you
can e-mail them right from that website as well.

Here's a sample of the message I sent (feel free to use it if you like):

Dear Mr. Hurson,

Please oppose HB906, which would allow hunting on Sundays. As a birder
and naturalist, I enjoy the outdoors year-round. Sunday is the one day
I can do so without worrying about being shot by a hunter by accident.
The hunters have the other six days of the week. Please give those of
us who enjoy other outdoor activities the other one day of the week.

Thanks.

The hearings are 3/4 and 3/5, both at 1 p.m. I plan to call tomorrow to
find out who is scheduled to testify, and if there are no birding
organizations represented, I'll try to get a slot on the schedule, but
it really should be someone who is authorized to speak on behalf of MOS
or ANS, not an individual birder.
