Technically speaking, primaries are numbered from the inner most one to =
the outermost because in evolution its the outermost one that is lost, =
hence our nine primary songbirds.  I guess in a practical sense =
numbering from the outside inward is easier when you are watching live =
birds because you  cannot easily tell which one is innnermost primary. =20

Secondaries by the way are numbered from the outermost one to the =
innermost one.
