(Silver) Spring migration

Hi,

This morning (March 6) as we were leaving the house, we saw and heard some
gabbling 150 Canada Geese fly fairly high overhead, heading north. A
couple of minutes later, some 25 Tundra (aka Whistling) Swans flew over in
the same general direction, their soft gabbling calls preceding our
sighting of them. An hour later, as I sit in my office, the clouds have
lowered and rain has begun, so I don't expect to any more waterfowl for a
while. (Last night at 10:30 we heard a flock of swans, but couldn't see
them.) After this we watched the Carolina Wren sing from the top of a bare
tree, and the American Robins and Common Grackles gambol on the ground and
in the trees in and near our yard.

A friend described to me an adult Northern Goshawk seen in a yard in
Potomac on Thursday, March 4, noting the red eye among other features. It
was perched close to the house.

Best,
