Good Afternoon:
Isn`t it simply grand to be out and about on a glorious spring day!! My
travels today began at BETHEL WMA with partial lists as follows:
Ruby-crown Kinglet - 6, singing.
American Coot- 420+ ( rename Bethel as Coot Bay? )
Tree Swallow- 200+
Pied Bill Grebe- 2
Northern Pintail- 2
A loud chorus of spring peepers.
Onward south on 213 to COURTHOUSE POINT WMA
Song Sparrows- ridiculously abundant, 4dz. +
Field Sparrow- 2, singing, first of season
Bluebird- 3
Bald Eagle- 1 adult
Pintail- 300+
Canada Goose- 400+ ( I might add I did a very effective job of flushing
every single bird from the impoundment, despite my stealth!! )
Am. Wigeon- 2
Killdeer-2
Tree Swallow- 70
White-breasted Nuthatch- 1, heard calling
Yellow-rump Warbler-1
As I travelled further south, a dastardly Mocking Bird did a pretty good
Great-crested Flycatcher imitation, such that I stood on car brakes,
causing my dog to do a near headstand in the back. Also had American
Kestrel, one each at Short Cut Rd, Wards Hill Rd and Edgar Price Rd. 2
Redtail Hawks on Edgar Price as well.
GUNTHERS POND in Cecilton, while yielding no rarities, did have 82 Snow
Geese, 3 Horned Lark and 1 Killdeer.
Happy Springtime
