Well, we made the trip, and were rewarded by seeing the Kelp Gull on Saturday afternoon. Glad we took the chance. We did go to Point Lookout, and only saw 1 C Loon and some Buffle Heads. Not much action there. The Sea Breeze had lots of Oldsquaw and Buffle Heads. Also saw Horned Grebe, Oldsquaw, Buffle Heads and Osprey at PAXRIV. We spent quite a bit of time visiting places where my wife used to live and general sightseeing. Had a pretty good time. Thanks for the pointers. But, if you decide to come down (who knows if/when the gull might return), you should make the extra drive to Pt. Lookout State Park at the southern tip of the county. Diving ducks are staging along the rivers and on the bay and are in large numbers now. You should easily see all 3 scoters, lesser and greater scaup, common goldeneye, horned grebe, oldsquaw, common loon, maybe red-throated loon. There is also a possibility of seeing a good selection of gulls and probably northern gannets along the Potomac and Bay and probably some lingering great cormorants on the markers to the south of the point. If you don't want to drive all that way, you can see most of the ducks (minus the scoters) along the Patuxent from the Sea Breeze. Good Birding! Are there any places we should be sure to visit besides the Seabreeze? Thanks in advance, Bill =============== Norm Saunders Colesville, MD osprey@ari.net
