Howdy All!

Made a short birding trip to Upper Gunpowder Falls this afternoon (as
described in the new Birdfinding Guide to Baltimore County).

4:30-6:15pm

Great Blue Heron (2)
Mallard (6)
Turkey Vulture (3)
Belted Kingfisher (1)
Am Crow (16)
Tufted Titmouse (1)
Carolina Chickadee (8)
possible Black-capped Chickadee (1)- with a group of Carolina Chickadees
upstream from the parking lot at camping area #1 near the river; was
calling regularly with a distinct whistled two-note call, unlike the
Carolinas it was associating with; I spent close to 20 minutes trying to
track it down and/or call it in with pishes, squeaks, Screech-Owl calls,
Saw-whet calls, heck, anything I could think of, but no luck getting any
photos (not even "terrible" ones <grin>); I was also without any sound
recording devices...
Carolina Wren (1)
Northern Cardinal (2)
White-throated Sparrow (1)
Dark-eyed "Slate-colored" Junco (2)
Red-winged Blackbird (30)
Starling (2)

Activity, as you can see was pretty dull...hence, the extra time spent
trying to track down the possible Black-capped Chickadee. Upper
Gunpowder Falls is a very scenic area and I very much enjoyed the
visit. Just wish there would have been more birds. Maybe later this
spring...
