Hi Folks! Grege certainly used the right word .... "possible". Upper Baltimore County is notorius for having Black-capped-like chickadees which are not perfectly good Black-Capped Chickadees. As far as I can tell from all of the Winter Season reports, there was absolutely no movement of Black-caps this past winter. Northern Baltimore County is well-within the range of Carolina Chickadee. I have been looking at chickadees a lot and have run across numerous individuals which by call, song, plumage, and shape have had to end up calling "chichadee sp.". In January 1998 I had two near Beckleysville, Baltimore County. If you ever want to try the challenge, I recommend western Washington County on Long Ridge along Woodmont Rd. [Delorme 69, B5]. The Cactoctins in Frederick County also have numerous birds that while tending more toward Carolina have puzzling fearures. Good Birding! Jim Jim Stasz North Beach MD jlstasz@aol.com
