My wife an I made a quick, middle-of-the-day trip to Huntley Meadows on
Saturday, 4/3/99. Heard but did not see a rail, but did see a female
mallard with 8 ducklings in tow. Also saw Rind Necked Ducks (6),
Gadwell (8), Canada Geese (many), Mallards (several), White Throated and
Swamp Sparrows,
Red shouldered Hawk (1), Pie Billed Grebe (2), Black Duck and/or Black
Duck-Mallard cross (3), Green Wing Teal (1), as well as Tufted Titmouse
(several), Carolina Wren (several), Cardinals (several). Also saw many
many turtles, and were almost deafened by the frogs. We were pretty
happy with a quick break from running errands.
