This came across on BirdChat. It might be of interest to some/all of you. Good Birding! Tyler Bell mailto:bell@acnatsci.org California, MD http://www.audubon.org/chapter/md/smas/ ==================================================== Dear Cats Indoors! Campaign Activists: This is the first in a series of Cats Indoors! Campaign updates that you will receive by e-mail this year. Over 1100 individuals and organizations are actively involved in Cats Indoors!, and e-mail is the best way to communicate. In the third year of the campaign, there's lots to tell you. First, we have a new web site at: http://www.abcbirds.org. The Cats Indoors! page has all of the education kit fact sheets which can be downloaded and retrieved in WordPerfect or Word. Two new fact sheets have been added: "What Can You Do About Your Neighbor's Cats In Your Yard?" and "Cat Predation On Birds And Other Wildlife--Recent Studies" Second, new color Public Service Announcements can be downloaded from the web site to use in your newsletters or to pass on to your local press. Third, a new color poster can be downloaded and distributed to your local veterinarians, pet shops, wild bird centers, animal shelters, nature centers, wildlife rehabilitation centers, and anywhere else you think appropriate. Fourth, please tell us your success stories. We'd like to hear from you so that we can get a better understanding of the breadth and effectiveness of the campaign. Let us know if you are working on getting a local cat ordinance passed in your community, supporting humane removal of stray and feral cats from wildlife areas, conducting a letter-writing campaign to bring media attention to the issue, etc. And finally, we need your help. In conjunction with International Migratory Bird Day on May 8, we are planning a national "Keep Your Cats Indoors Day" to better publicize the campaign during spring bird migration. We will be sending you a sample press release to pass on to your local media, and suggestions for other activities as well. So stay tuned and thanks for all your efforts. With your help, we are really making a difference in the lives of cats, birds and other wildlife. Linda Winter, Director Cats Indoors!
