Hi All:
A joint Cecil/DOS trip to Turkey Point ably led by Parke John this am
was well attended by 15 individuals.
Many observed their first Pine Warblers ( 10 ) of the season, but
behaving in distinctly un-Pine-Warbler-like fashion. To begin with they
were silent, not a chip or a trill. Secondly, they were spiralling the
trunks of tulip poplars, much in the same fashion of brown creepers. In
fact, that is how they were first called, due to behaviour, before a
good look was obtained. Several Yellow-rumps were present. Also a
season first for most were Blue Gray Gnatcatchers ( 12 ). An Eastern
Phoebe was seen towards the end of the walk. Tree Swallows circled the
meadow at the lighthouse ( 6 ). Yellow-bellied sapsucker ( 2 ) gave
good looks. A single Wood Duck flushed from a marshy area. What would
Turkey Point be without Bald Eagle ( 1 adult ), and of course Osprey ( 2
) are re-establishing territories. Both Kinglets were seen, and a large
Owl sp. flew hurriedly from sight.
All told- 42 species seen on a somewhat chilly and windy morning to
begin with.
