I met Jim Stasz at Bethel WMA this morning to find me Vesper Sparrow. We
started off walking the dyke at Bethel to look for Palm Warblers. We found 1
in with some Myrtles. There was a very dense fog over the impoundment and
not much was seen. We then went to Middleneck Rd. off Old Telegraph Rd.
Here were arrived to a Vesper sitting on a telephone wire! We then had two
more running in the fields. The birds were reasonably close to the road and
I got good looks of this life bird despite the fog. We then made a stop at
Gunther's Pond by Cecilton and found 2 Dunlin, 2 Least Sandpipers, 1 Greater
Yellowlegs, 29 Green-winged Teal, and 5 flyover Common Loons. The
impoundment by Grove Point contained 2 Blue-winged Teal with many Ring-necked
Ducks and Buffehead. Millington WMA in Kent County also produced some nice
birds. We had a flock of about 20 Rusty Blackbirds and 2 Palm Warblers in
one spot and a Greater Yellowlegs and Spotted Sandpiper in another.
Throughout the day were good numbers of Blue-gray Gnatcatchers and Brown
Thrashers. I then left for work, but Jim did more birding and will complete
this summary soon.
