Harford County celebrated Earth Day today with a celebration in Havre de Grace. The Harford Bird Club had an exhibit in the main tent and I had my scope set up overlooking the Susquehanna River to give people looks at the birds in the area. The big hit of the day was a nesting Bald Eagle with at least 2 young. The nest is actually in Cecil County on the Perry Point VA Hospital grounds or nearly so. Although the nest was probably a mile away, my 75X Celestron gave decent looks at one parent bird which obligingly stayed put all morning and early afternoon and at least 2 little heads that popped up periodically. It was some people's first look at an eagle. Other birds seen were: Osprey nesting on the Amtrak bridge DC Cormorants Mallards Red-breasted Mergansers Coots Bonaparte's Gulls Ring-billed Gulls Herring Gulls Tree Swallows Barn Swallows -- ====================== Les Eastman les_eastman@netfox.net Havre de Grace, MD Visit the Harford Bird Club Web Page at http://birdclub.harfordhasit.com
