Word from the manager of the Sea Breeze Restaurant at 11:45 a.m. today, Sunday, April 25, 1999, is that the Kelp Gull was back at its usual haunt on the pier behind the crabhouse. Today is a unique celebration in St. Mary's County, called the Blessing of the Bikes (and I don't mean the kind you pedal), so along with the Kelp Gull are about 100 assorted motorcycles and their riders, plus a parking lot full of blessing-goers, who intend to fully enjoy the band, barbeque, and bar. A powerboat pulled up to the pier and the Kelpster flew off, circling over the festivities before the manager lost track of it. Tyler Bell and I had been at the Sea Breeze just before, at 11 a.m. (having not known anything about the bike blessing celebration) and the Kelp Gull was NOT present at that time. (Ironically, I told Tyler that the gull would probably show up when blessing events got in full swing, since it would think the crowded parking lot and boisterous crowd was there again in its honor.)
