Tim, WESTERN STRIPE-HEADED TANAGER (smallish, sparrow-sized instead of Cardinal-sized), Bahamian race (it had a black back instead of the green back of the Cuban race). There was speculation initially about the Cuban race since this is only the second (I believe) record for the West Coast of Florida. -Greg Miller Baltimore, MD ______________________________ Reply Separator ____________________________ _____ Subject: Re: Florida Rpt 4/23-4/25 Author: mdosprey@ARI.Net (Timothy Boucher <tboucher@geocities.com>) at INTERNET Date: 4/27/99 3:30 PM Greg So which Stipe-headed Tanager was it? The species has been been split into four species - Peurto Rican, Hispaniolan, Western, and Jamaican (see: A Guide to the Birds of the West Indies,1998). Probably Western... although if no-one has checked it could be a first... (you might have to get a DNA sample though). Tim Boucher
