Stealth Day

Did the PGAS Birdathon on Saturday. The wind had me pessimistic about a big
day and after several whiffs at Huntley Meadows (no Sora or YC Night-Herons)
I was sure it wasn't going to be a Big Day. I did trudge down the trail
through the woods at the end of the boardwalk and get RH Woodpecker plus a
dozen ticks.
Itinerary-
0500-1000 Huntley Meadow, VA
1005-1010 Krispy Kreme Donuts
1030-1145 Monticello Park, VA
1230-1400 Izaak Walton section of Pax River Park, PG Co MD
also small wooded stream near Glenn Dale Golf course
1500-2030 Delaware Beaches

Monticello Park had no flowing water and produced few warblers, my total for
the day was only 21 warbler species. I call in a 'stealth day' because a)
either Dover AFB had their own air show or they were the staging area for
Andrews and both the Stealth Fighter and the B-2 Bomber few over and b) odd
birds kept showing up, a Common Loon flying over Bombay Hook; 60+ Avocets, a
Tricolor Heron and 2 Shovelers at Little Creek; a lone Oystercatcher at Port
Mahon; Upland Sandpiper AND Grasshopper Sparrow near Dover AFB. So when I
counted up at the end of the day, to my surprise I had a personal best - 157
species in a day.
