Hi All:
10 participants on this lovely May 22 morning discerned that spring
migration is largely over. Resident breeding birds comprised the bulk of
the trip list; much gathering of nesting material was observed.
Non-resident migrants were COMMON LOON, CASPIAN TERN, BLACK-POLL WARBLER
and LINCOLN SPARROW. ( unfortunately the latter observed only by Bob
Ringler as it flushed into dense cover)
Of the residents, ORCHARD ORIOLE were numerous, probably 10 for every
BALTIMORE. Dozens of CEDAR WAXWINGS were present. Warblers on
territory were PARULA, REDSTART, KENTUCKY, and PRAIRIE.
NORTHERN BOBWHITE ( 1) was heard calling. We all shared good looks at a
SCARLET TANAGER. Flycatchers were GREAT-CRESTED ,PEEWEE, ACADIAN and
PHOEBE. Vireos: WHITE-EYE, RED-EYE and YELLOW-THROATED.
