Kevin Fehskens and I took a trip down the coast of Delaware on Saturday and
then took the ferry over to Cape May on Sunday. Despite the lack of migrant
songbirds, we managed to pick up 132 species for the weekend. Only 11
species of warbler were seen, but everyone at Cape May was having just as
lousy a day as we were (with songbirds anyway). Highlights included: an
adult Little Blue Heron at Finis Pool in Bombay Hook, 2 Tricolored Herons (1
at Port Mahon the other flying over Delaware Bay during the ferry ride),
Peregrine Falcon fly-by at Bombay Hook, Piping Plover at Cape May, Whimbrel
at Cape May, White-rumped Sandpipers in good numbers at Bombay, a pair of
Red-necked Phalaropes at Prime Hook, 2 Gull-billed Terns at Little Creek,
Chuck-will's-widow calling at Cape Henlopen. All in all it was still a good
trip and we plan to do it again next year. Below is the full list.
