The St. Mary's County, MD Kelp Gull was present
at the Sea Breeze Restaurant today, Wednesday,
June 2, 1999, from at least 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., when
Tyler Bell and I left. The gull was feeding on a small
fish and it flew across the river in to Calvert County
waters for several minutes (we were pleased--we
hadn't had it on our June list yet...)
The Sea Breeze manager said the Kelp Gull had
been at the restaurant for long periods of time
over the past three or four days, as well.
Tyler and I have been on vacation since May 15,
so the absence of reports may be more from our
absence than an absence of the gull. I even had to
look up the phone number of the restaurant when
we first got back on May 31!
The staff at the Sea Breeze Restaurant have offered
to give updates. You may call them at 301-373-5217.
Please be advised that new help has been added,
and they're not all as well versed with the gull, and the
restaurant is swamped with seasonal business (no
absence of cream of crab soup these days--the owner
is back from Florida and makes it fresh every few days)
so their information may not always be totally up to
date and accurate. However, the staff shortage makes
career opportunites (and Kelp Gull viewings) abound.
