The yard is a hotbead of fledgling activity. Yesterday I saw 2 Pileated
fledglings on the edge of the woods with both the parents. My Bluebirds
have brought 2 young (4 were in the box so what happened to the other
2?)back to the worm feeder during the last few days. The Carolina wrens
are on their second brood. They are carrying food to the neighbor's
grill (broken and unused) where their nest located.
I also have a pair of Hairy woodpeckers that have brought at least 2
young to the suet. The Downies are there all the time. They get their
bills all covered with suet and then the young pick the suet off. The
Chickadee family is fun to watch as the young harrass the parents
constantly for food. Hummingbird activity is starting to increase. I saw
a female last night and two males.
The water seems to be a contant draw. There seems to be a bird drinking
or in one of the baths constantly. I wonder if the lack of rain is a
problem?
