Nancy and I found a Kirtland's Warbler on our own in 1995. We arrived in
Mio on July 9, too late for the tours, and had to try for it on our own.
We were able to drive on dirt (actually sand) roads through Jack Pine
habitat, without violating any "No Trespassing" areas that lined the
roads. We were luck enough to find a singing Kirtland's Warbler in about
20 minutes or so.

We were there on a Sunday, so the FWS(?) office in town was closed, but
they would probably give you some suggestions if you ask them.

Steve, call me for more details. Do it before Monday as Nancy and I will
be away for a while after Sunday.
