I have been a wimp and stayed in the house/yard this last week but it has had its rewards. Last evening a GREAT CRESTED FLYCATHER flew into the pear tree next to the feeders and actually landed on the ground to catch an insect. An immature BALTIMORE ORIOLE practiced his simging skills from the top of the pear tree. A noticable upsing in singing from the resident OVENBIRD, PARULA and KENTUCY WARBLERS. I also heard two warblers with buzzy flight notes flyover the last couple mornings but they passed on incognito (I need a lot more practice with those warbler flight notes!). Birds that have nested in the woods behind the house and/or that are bringing up babies to the feeders are PILEATED, HAIRY, DOWNY, RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS. TUFTED TITMOUSE, CAROLINA CHICKADEE, WHITE BREASTED NUTHATCH, CAROLINA WREN, HOUSE WREN, EASTERN BLUEBIRD, EASTERN PHOEBE, AMERICAN ROBIN, NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD, NORTHEN CARDINAL, INDIGO BUNTING, COMMON GRACKLE, HOUSE FINCH. Most exciting yesterday! I found a CHIPPING SPARROW nest and the mom tried to lure me away when she realized I had spotted her little ones. Bonnie Ott
