Hi Folks! Perhaps more interesting than the Ruff which has been around for a week, was a single flyby Long-billed Dowitcher. Dave Harvey picled it up first as it was coming in from the NW ... he yelled "DOWITCHER" and a group of us were able to get it in binoculars before it passed overhead and follow it as ot headed SE. Although the red-rusty belly insicated an adult, and the very long bill suggested Long-billed, it was a series of "keek" call notes that completed the diagnosis. I have seen Long-billed Dowitchers, and have recordings, from early August at Deal I. WMA, Somerset Co. If I were to look for an August Long-bill, perhaps fresh water marsh areas would be the place. How do I claim a prize, Bob? Good Birding! Jim ps: The bird at Easton today is the same bird I saw Monday evening at Tanyard, Caroline Co. A check of Ridgely this morning had few shorebirds, noteably one Stilt Sandpiper in breeding plumage and no avocets. or dowitchers. Jim Stasz North Beach MD jlstasz@aol.com
