Hi Folks, I got to see some shorebirds this past Saturday at the Youghiougheny Reservoir in Garrett County. 35 Killdeer 5 Solitary Sandpiper 9 Spotted Sandpiper 1 Pectoral Sandpiper 3 Lesser Yellowlegs also ~ 38 Wood Ducks, an immature (~3rd year) Bald Eagle, 3 Gt. Blue Herons, 2 Green Herons, 3 Belted Kingfishers. The wildlife trail here was kind of quiet but I did find one female Black & White Warbler, some Yellow Warblers, a Brown Thrasher, Eastern Kingbirds, Eastern Phoebe, Black-capped Chickadeees, Carolina Wren, Gray Catbird, Cardinal etc. I have included directions for those of you who might be out here or plan to come out here (and for Greg). There are probably other areas to go to to get here but the way I went was as follows. Directions: Take I68 to Rt 42 (Friendsville) and go North of the Freeway. The first left turn is Blaine Franz Road. follow that until it ends at Old Morgantown Road and turn Right (this area near the power lines is good for Savannah Sparrows and Bobolinks too earlier in the Summer). Go to the end of the road and park on the left by an old foundation just before the wildlife trail begins on the right (if you go any further the road deteriorates ... notice the "Road ends in Water" sign). Wear boots or mud-resistant footwear and walk straight out to the waters edge there are good spots on the right and the left but mostly to the left.
