On Tuesday evening, August 10, Richard Hagenston, Lisa (unsure of last name) and I checked the flats at Havre de Grace. Among the highlights were: Double-crested Cormorant 16 Killdeer 30 Semipalmated Plover 4 Least Sandpiper 30 Semipalmated Sandpiper 6 Pectoral Sandpiper 1 peep sp. 100 Spotted Sandpiper 3 Laughing Gull 8 (among 500+ gulls) Caspian Tern 55 Forster's Tern 100 Common Tern 3 SANDWICH TERN 1 BLACK TERN 2 The Sandwich Tern was present for about 15 minutes just as the flat was disappearing. It was a winter plumaged adult. The Black Terns were present at about the same time but were still there as it became too dark to see. This is, I think, the first record of Sandwich Tern for Harford County, and the first Black Terns this year.
