Tyler Bell just called to say that the Kelp Gull was present at the Sea
Breeze, St. Mary's County, at 8:10 a.m. on Monday, August 23, 1999. A
visiting birder from TN, who had spent the weekend unsuccessfully staking
the gull out, was also present, and can now head home happy (he had given
the gull until noon today, before he had to leave).
Tyler said the gull was not there when he (Tyler) first arrived, but an
immature Herring Gull flew past with a dead fish and !shazam! the Kelp Gull
zoomed in, dogging the Herring Gull until they both landed on the "feeding
pier" and the Kelp Gull got the fish away from the Herring Gull. Tyler said
ol' Shrimpy whacked the scales off the dead fish and seemed to be enjoying
every minute of it.

Today is a gift; that's why they call it the PRESENT.
