Rockburn branch park again proved its worth with a great showing of migrants. The bad light in the early a.m. let a few slip by unidentified but we hit a fantastic pocket by the bridge to the "haunted house". Warblers seen were BLUE-WING, TENNESSEE, CHESTNUT SIDED-2, MAGNOLIA-20, CAPE MAY-2!!, BTB-25, B&W-2, REDSTART-30, KENTUCKY-1, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT. For a 10 minute period of time there were so many birds flitting around we were in that frenzy to try to "catch" them all before the slipped by. There were good numbers of B-G GNATCATHERS that flitted around very close to us. Such cuties! Other noteworthy birds were VEERY-2, WOOD THRUSH, GREAT-CRESTED, SCARLET TANAGER, KESTREL, SHARPIE, BRWON THRASHER-2. The only sad thing was the complete devastation of the land adjoining the park by the 'wood chip trail'. The entire area of "Trinity" is bulldozed up, in some places almost right up to the stream. It is heartbreaking to see that land destroyed. Future walks may have to bypass our favorite streamside trail. :( Bonnie Ott (Howard County)
