Hi Everyone, While heading to North Branch this evening around 7:00, I noticed a group of Nighthawks overhead. After screeching to a stop, I was able to count about 30 heading rapidly south. About 45 minutes earlier I had checked the Potomac at Cumberland at the terminus of the C&O Canal and had picked out about a dozen Nighthawks among a huge group of Chimney Swifts swirling far downriver. The birds seen later could certainly have been the same birds. Not much in the way of shorebirds at either the Potomac or North Branch. Highlights from Monday, Sept. 6, were: Rocky Gap - Pied-billed Grebe 1 Broadwing that snagged lunch and halted most of the activity Brown Thrasher Red-eyed Vireo 2 Pine Warbler 1 Scarlet Tanager Rose-breasted Grosbeak 2 Mason Road - Turkey 17 Blackpoll 1 Happy trails ....
