Hi all, This afternoon (Sept. 16) I went to Black Hill Regional Park, Montgomery Co., Md., and ran in to Paul O'Brien (at low velocity, so his Saturn is still intact (-;). We were at the bridge over the reservoir for close to half an hour around 2 to 2:30 pm or so. There was one Common Tern, a species less than annual in the county according to the Yellow Book, and four Pied-billed Grebes. I had stopped briefly at the bridge a half hour earlier and saw two Sterna terns under poorer conditions. When I spotted two Turkey Vultures flying northwest in to the 25 mph winds and diminishing rain, I decided it was time to leave. I drove to a farm pond northwest of Olney that sometimes has shorebirds but saw none. A small group of Tree Swallows coursed over the pond, which had very high water level because the rain. A lovely area of tickseed sunflowers (Bidens sp.) along the southwest shore was in a few inches of water because of the winds out of the north.
