Tonight, 9/17/99 at about 6:20 PM on the way home from work traveling North on Rt 95 at a snail's pace I observed a Monk Parakeet foraging in the median strip just inside the Howard County line. The bird was moving south between the rest stop and the dam for Howard T. Duckett's Reservior. Since tomorrow is the Howard County Bird Club's fall count, it would be worth looking for the bird tomorrow, for the person assigned to that area. There is a possibility the bird could be found in the trees at the base of the dam (this area will be open for access ONLY to the person doing the count). I suppose looking at the rest stop off RT 95 might also be worth a try. I'm not sure if this is an escaped bird, or a displaced bird, or a displaced escaped bird ? I've never seen one before in Maryland, though I know there is a colony in Delaware. Good Birding, Darius Ecker (dariuse@abs.net) Columbia, Maryland USA
