Only good sighting for my MOS walk at Meadowside Nature Center for Saturday Sept. 18 were 3 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES feeding in the trees adjacent to the parking lot. We had a total 11 species of warblers including a single Worm-eating, Prairie, Blackburnian and at least 2 Blackpolls. About 30 Broad-winged Hawks kettled over Lake Frank before heading south. Birding Layhill Park on Sunday I found a single immature Sharp-shinned Hawk patrolling the weedy meadow, being harassed by Blue Jays and Flickers, 3 Broad-winged Hawks, a single immature Red-tailed Hawk, a single Red-shouldered Hawk, a single American Kestrel. Hawk-watching over my backyard in the PM I had 4 Osprey fly over, as well as a single Coopers Hawk, 60 Broad-wingeds, 2 Black Vultures, and a number of Turkey Vultures.
