Hi All: ( Sorry for the lateness of this post, ongoing problems getting posts through ) Not the best count day ever on 9/20. However, I had good entertainment watching raptors feeding on the wing, taking advantage of the swarms of dragonflies present. Don`t think I`d ever seen any birds with crops so distended, looked like they were on the verge of exploding. Which brings to mind (one of )an excellent point made by Rick Blom in Octobers BWD article " Accipiter ID." Ricks` point was to never rely on head size alone ( or any other factor alone ) when making the sharpie/coops distinction, due to the fact that full crops distort the difference in head size between the two species. If ever there was an example of that, I saw it at Turkey Point today. >From 12-4pm: BW-13, SS-24, CH-3, AK-6, TV-15, BE-4, OS-3, Unidentified-6 Others- DC Cormorant- 41, Ruby-throated Hummer-1, Red-breasted Nuthatch and Blue-gray Gnatchatcher ( heard several bzzz bzzzz calls).
