Oct. 2 at Meadowside Nature Center, Rockville: Best birds were a lone RUDDY DUCK on Lake Frank, a single late Broad-winged Hawk, a heard only Red-breasted Nuthatch, and a Nashville Warbler. Sunday Oct. 3 in the small patch of woods north of Randolph Rd. near Kemp Mill Rd., Northwest Branch Park, Wheaton : This "patch" again produced some amazing finds. I birded here from about 8 AM till nearly 11, and found 3 wren species (WINTER-2, House and Carolina), 5 woodpeckers (Red-bellied, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker-3, Downy, Hairy, and N. Flicker), 3 vireos (PHILADELPHIA, BLUE-HEADED, and Red-eyed), and 10 warblers (Nashville-2, N. Parula, Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Black-throated Blue-male, Black-throated Green, Blackburnian, Blackpoll, A. Redstart, and C. Yellowthroat). Other good finds were: E. Wood-Pewee, E. Phoebe, both kinglets, and Scarlet Tanager. Rick Sussman Ashton,MD Tuesday AM # 301-562-0303
