Rick, The Sora was in the cattails between the ball fields. The cattails are inundated with that reddish invasive vine (can't recall the name). The Sora was standing on a layer of that vine within the cattails, so was about 2 feet off the ground and about 3 feet in from the edge. The sora was cooperative only in the fact that it didn't hide right away, that's not to say that it wasn't already hidden behind the reeds. For those who are interested, our specific observations follow. Bill: yellow; upper bill darker, long. Dark ring around base of bill. Ring was part of the face but at the base of the bill. Gray face, brown cap with darker line down the center of the head to the back. Other in-line streaks on back, but never got a good look at the side or whole bird. Only saw bird from head-on. Chest: light gray, with no apparent streaking, but with a dark smudge (not really a spot). A quick flash of the under tail coverts showed whitish.
