Hi All: How exciting!!! A break from my fall planting to sit and focus on backyard bird activity turned out to be highly productive. A beautiful fresh plummage WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW of the Gambel variety flew into the bird bath to refresh itself; certainly an early yard record for this species. Then I began to catch glimpses of a heavily streaked finch size bird with white wing bars......yup- PINE SISKINS, 1/2 dz. of these aggressive dynamos. Also an early record for me. A WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH came in to spiral the trunk of my sycamore tree. GOLDEN-CROWN KINGLET foraged in the wild cherries along the side of the property. As we continue to add naturalized plantings to the yard, we`re seeing ever increasing variety of species visiting us; I lkie to think that it is starting to look like an oasis from the air, a good place to visit. Well, gotta go to work, could hardly tear myself away from the show. Leslie Fisher Cecil Co.
