Some brief info on the park and ride. It is a very accessable and
productive area. It is mainly field and wetland, great sparrow area! We
have had good diversity in sparrows there and also marsh birds. There is
a chance for just about everything there since it is dotted with ponds
and marshy areas.
The best way to bird it is to park at the southwest corner of the p and
r. If you stand facing 29 there is a draining area that is fenced on you
right. Head down into the wetland area by skirting around the fence
heading right. You then walk through a few inches of water between the
remants of a fence. There is a big cattail patch to your right. You head
up an old gravel road and the top of the hill is great all around you.
Follow the road toward the direction of 29. You will come to a bluebird
box toward the end of the gravel road and that's where we usally cut
left through the field. There is a low area full of cattails and ponds.
It is a great spot but tough going and very wet. We explore that well
and then work our way back toward the park and ride. All along the west
side of the p and r are ponds just past the open fields. It's not a big
area but very productive. In certain season you come out covered with
ticks. Right now they are gone but the mosquitos are pretty bad.
