Hi All: Yesterday at TP we looked at a Blue-headed Vireo that had distinctly yellow wing bars. Today, I had an excellent look from the cliff edge for a topside view say 10-15 ft. above the bird, of another vireo thrashing around a butterfly prior to consumption. It then hopped up to a higher elevation to give me a more direct aspect. I am uncertain as to which subspecies of BHVI this could have been due to the white wing bars. Description as follows- Olive greenish cast to uppers extending onto the nape. Throat and breast pale. ** Wing bars most definitely white, tertial edges and secondaries sharply defined by white** , white on outer tail. Narrow yellowish wash( no hint of grayness ) along sides of breast and flanks. My impression of the " spectacles " and white lores was that they were enormous; this could have been the proximity to the bird. Any help/comments would be welcome. Leslie Fisher Cecil Co.
