I can't top Gail and Barry's numbers, as Lisa and I spent less time in a smaller area (plus we didn't count sparrows). However, we did see 6 PINE SISKINS and a male PURPLE FINCH. Also present were two EASTERN PHOEBEs (both might different from their phoebe); there were five Myrtle (Yellow-rumped) Warblers up by where our cars were parked along the fencerows with four Eastern Bluebirds. As we were walking along a high dike down near a stream, we flushed an adult (male?; small) SHARP-SHINNED HAWK from a brier tangle; the hawk was some eight or nine feet from my eyes before it took off. We also saw a female AMERICAN KESTREL and a Merlin/Peregrine. No bitterns or wrens for us. )-: Rob Hilton robert@csa.com Bethesda
