This morning there were three RED-NECKED GREBES above the dam at Conowingo. Two were adults and one was a juvenile. They were part of a huge flock of birds between the dam at the mouth of Glen Cove Marina. The juvenile, which was about a quarter of a mile above the dam on the Harford side, was the easiest to see. The others were distant. Other birds included: Common Loon 17 Horned Grebe 24 Pied-billed Grebe 2 DC Cormorant 45 Bufflehead 4 (1st of season) Common Merganser 3 (females) Ring-billed Gull 2500 Bonaparte's Gull 150 Forster's Tern 30 Red-necked Grebe is new for the year, number 238 (plus or minus one). Thanks to whomever reported the bird from Montgomery County (I deleted the post). It got me up and going this morning, although I did not really expect to find any. I thought scoters might be in. Yesterday, Brian Blazie and I hit the big field at Perryman for an hour. The sparrows were about the same, although Fields seemed up a bit at 40, and we had two Eastern Phoebes and 6 Palm Warblers (2 yellow, 4 western).
