No Yellow-billed Loon today as of 12:30pm. I checked near Greenwell from 8:30-8:45am and arrived at the Sea Breeze a little before 9am. A Colorado birder was just leaving. He got the Kelp Gull, but no YBLO. He said another birder before him was also unsuccessful. We had 6-8 birders scanning the river intermitingly until I left at 12:30pm. The cold North wind and choppy water made for less-than-decent viewing conditions, too. I tallied 38 Common Loons this morning (but there were probably many more). No Red-throateds today and no imm. Common with the yellow bill. Buffleheads, Com Goldeneyes, and Ruddy Ducks were present, as well as one Horned Grebe and a single Oldsquaw (this was my first one this Fall). Several adult flyby Bald Eagles were a delight to all. We had 2 Ospreys, too--one bird and one airplane. Forster's Terns are still quite common on the river. Six gull species were observed this morning, too: Great Black-back, Herring, Ring-billed, Laughing, Bonaparte's, and the ring-master, Kelp Gull (sitting on its favorite post--right side of the east pier, 5th post from the end). "Shrimpy" was, of course, posing for the cameras (as always) and was absent only briefly this morning from 9-9:30am. -- Greg Miller Hollywood, Maryland, USA Home- gregorym@erols.com or hawk-owl@yahoo.com WWW- http://www.erols.com/gregorym
