Hi, Lisa Shannon and I went to Cape May by 8:40 am ferry on Sunday intending to spend the day but .... We missed the huge landbird fallout by our late arrival but from the ferry we were passed by the following species heading northeast past the ferry toward Cape May, shortly before the 10 am arrival: 1 American Robin, 6 Am. Goldfinch, and 1 male Red-winged Blackbird flying in tandem with 1 Rusty Blackbird. I knew something was up, as I had not seen so many passerines from the ferry before. The two Northern Goshawks (male and female) at the banding demonstration were right nice. We ended up spending the night and before we caught the 8:40 ferry back we counted 27 Cave Swallows in the air at once over the Nature Conservancy preserve (the meadows), flying slowly up from the dunes towards Sunset Avenue and a higher altitude. This was around 7:30 am. From the ferry we saw a jaeger, possibly a Pomarine, but fairly distant. That's all I'll say since it wasn't in Maryland....an amazing day. And I was there for at least part of it.
