Hi all, I got a pretty good look at a COMMON REDPOLL at Assateague Nat. Seashore (Worcester Co.) yesterday (Sat.) at about 11:30 a.m. The bird was in a clump of bushes, about 50 yards past the footbridge which is just beyond the parking lot at the end of Old Ferry Landing Rd. At Ocean City Inlet, at about 12:30 a.m., a PURPLE SANDPIPER, was in the company of about 20 Ruddy Turnstones and two Brant. All of these birds were on or near the rocks near the end of the seawall behind the motel (where the Harlequins hang out). NORTHERN GANNETS are all around the coast, with dozens viewed not only over the beaches at Assateague and Ocean City, but several flying over land, too. It doesn't seem to be the norm for them to come in so close. TUNDRA SWANS are in good numbers at West Ocean City Pond. The SANDHILL CRANE was seen at a distance of about .5 mile, well behind the pond on the south side of Tarbutton Mill Rd., Talbot Co., at about 4:30 p.m. yesterday. Through binoculars, the bird appeared pale gray, and towered above the hundreds of Canada Geese. Through a scope, the red cap was readily seen. Stan Arnold Glen Burnie
