Hi folks,

I have CC'd Mr. Heath, but thought that others
may want to hear this. It is based only weakly
on my own observations, but also on lots of
personal communication from knowledgeable sources
(some of whom are here, and may want to pipe
in...)

At Jug Bay, on the Patuxent River, there is a
"daily migration" of gulls. The species vary
with time of year, but whoever they are, they do
more or less the same thing. They spend the
night on the Ches Bay, or at least far down river
of us, on big water. This is likely to be safer
from potential predators. In the mornings they
move upstream, likely to feed at landfills,
McD's, etc. In the mid-to lad afternoon they
retrace the course, stopping for some amount of
time here at Jug Bay - the most-upstream wide
spot of the river. There is a woman working on
her Master's here, studying what it is they do
when they hang around here, and in a few months
we may have a better idea of what they do and
why.
