I am forwarding this question to MDOsprey and MarVaDel as I am sure
there are many people who can answer this better than I can. Please
respond directly to Mr. Heath since I do not know if he is subscribed to
either group.

>From our office on the Potomac in Alexandria Virginia, we can see a stream of birds flying down river in a dusk. I believe they are actually comming from above Washington, e.i.upstream, but don't know how far downstream they are going. At closer range there seem to be two groups. The higher are gulls with black wing tips and there is another, smaller flight that flys very close to the water and whose upper wings appear to be solid black.
Can you explain what we are seeing? Is this a seasonal pattern? What
type of gulls are we probably seeing? What are their probable terminis?
You advice would be much appreciated.
