Charlie, Fran and I switched from the Zeiss 10x40s to the Bausch & Lomb 8x42s because, to our eyes at least, they bave just that much better a view to justify spending the money. Every now and again I pull the Zeiss out of the closet and soon shove them back in again. The wider field of view coupled with the very sharp image with good contrast is what we were looking for. The 6' minimum focus distance was a great bonus! We also looked very closely at the new Leica binoculars and, quite frankly, they appeared, again, to our yes, to have less contrast and sharpness than our Zeiss bins. Go figure. The important thing you need to glean from all the above is that everyone is different and what is best for me may be horrible for you. There's no substitute for trying every one of the high end bins you can under field conditions. Best of luck!
