Ms. Cowan-- Since you live in the District, you might also want to try Huntley Meadows (an old bed of the Potomac River, and thus formerly part of Maryland), located just south of Alexandria. Huntley attracts a good mix of sparrows during appropriate seasons, and it's often great even when the sparrows are sparse.
