[MDOsprey] Snowy Owl succumbs

I just received a message from Ellen Short, Backyard Bird Co. in Wilmington,
DE -- unfortunately the Pt. Mahon Snowy Owl died today. The conclusion was
that the bird had been hit by a car -- the wound was not consistent with a
gunshot, for example, and the owl appeared to have a concussion. Collisions
with cars are fatal to a number of owls every year.

Ellen added that the Tri-State rehabbers said that many of the Snowies which
come this far south do so because they are starving. Apparently a photograph
taken of the owl Friday shows that it was injured. It was also very emaciated.

A sad ending for a special bird...
